Project Description
Pedestrian
noun
a person walking along a road or in a developed area.
adjective
lacking in vitality, imagination, distinction; commonplace, unimaginative; prosaic or dull
Pedestrian is an on-going photographic series that explores the nature of the ordinary and of depiction. The series emphasises the stillness of the visual encounter, rather than preconceived narratives imposed on the subject. This considered and inquisitive approach to observation stimulates engagement: engagement with the mundane and our conceptions of the mundane; engagement with the depicted subject and the space surrounding the subject at the moment the picture is taken. The visual elements of art take the lead to reveal this ambiguity and complexity, hidden in the most commonplace scenes. Thus the relationship between the visible and invisible, the real and the imagined, emerges.
